Serban, our tour guide was on time and kept us amused. He was very knowledgeable about Peles and Bran Castle. The van was impeccably clean and we enjoyed the small group vibe. Our driver Peter was excellent and did his best getting us through the traffic. Serban also took all the pictures we asked him to and made sure we got the best views. It is a long day but well worth it.

Fantastic sights (Braşov & Peleş Castle) and very well informed, helpful guide. Also, our guide was a great driver which made the trip pass quickly. Very memorable. Thank you!

The traffic flow in Romania is very inefficient. As such, the itinerary is merely an outline. We made it to all three destinations, but our guide spent most of the trip talking about the traffic which made for a stressful and hectic experience. The guide had great enthusiasm but his energy was distracting and sometimes annoying. Unless you love the story of Dracula, Bran’s castle is a little disappointing.

This is a long, long day given the amount of traffic in the area. That being said, the area around Peles Castle and Braşov are amazing. Braşov is definitely worth the trip. Bran Castle is a bit underwhelming and the cost to enter just to get photos is not really worth it.

Long day to visit the three sites but worth it both for the beauty of the castles and the city of Brasov. What really made the day was our outstanding guide Ioana, who filled our time with her passion, humour, authenticity and knowledge.

Our tour guide was a lovely very knowledgeable young lady(sorry her name I didn’t catch) the day was a long day from 8am until after 9pm but well worth it. Both the castles were interesting I preferred peles castle for the beauty inside. Dracula castle has a lot of steep steps in narrow corridors not an issue for most people but if you have any mobility issues it would be a challenge. There is a cafe at both castles the one at peles gets very busy but if you just step outside the entrance (where the bus drops you off) you will find a few local restaurants where it’s not as busy. We were given time at both castles to get a drink and snack. Braşov was a beautiful little town where you will have approx one hour to have a wonder and get a drink. On the way home we drove through some beautiful countryside in Transylvania we even saw bears. The drive is a long drive home over 3.5 hours you do stop for a comfort break. Please bear in mind that you are high up so take a jacket depending on the time of year.

Pick up was spot on time and tour guide was very friendly and gave clear information during the drive. Both castles were great to visit and plenty of free time at both and also in Brasov.

Although this is a big day out with a long drive, the journey was comfortable and well paced. Our guide was well organised and very informative. Both Peles and Bran castles are well worth seeing. Just be aware that Bran castle does require an uphill walk and also some narrow, steep steps within the castle. The free time for lunch/snacks at our last stop Brasov was much appreciated.

FAQ

Do you need to book Bran Castle tickets in advance?

Booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially during weekends and summer months. Bran Castle often reaches capacity, and purchasing early helps avoid long queues at the ticket office. Online tickets also ensure you can enter during your preferred time window.

Which castle is better to visit—Bran Castle or Peles Castle?

Both offer very different experiences. Bran Castle is famous for its Dracula legend and medieval fortress atmosphere, while Peles Castle is a lavish, fully furnished royal residence known for its ornate interiors. Travelers interested in history and architecture often prefer Peles, while those drawn to folklore and dramatic scenery gravitate toward Bran. Visiting both gives the most complete experience.

How long do you really need at Bran Castle?

Most visitors spend 1–1.5 hours exploring the interior and courtyard. The narrow staircases and small rooms can create bottlenecks during peak periods, so allowing extra time can help avoid rushing. Those interested in the museum exhibits may want additional time.

Is it easy to get to Bran Castle or Peles Castle without a car?

Public transport is available but involves multiple transfers and can be slow, especially on weekends. Buses from Brasov to Bran run regularly but may be crowded. Reaching Peles Castle from Bucharest or Brasov requires a train plus a substantial uphill walk or local taxi. This is why many travelers choose guided day trips for convenience.

Is Brasov safe for tourists, and how much time should you plan to spend there?

Brasov is considered one of Romania's safest and most tourist-friendly cities, with a well-preserved medieval center that's easy to walk. A short visit of 1–2 hours covers the main sights near the central square, while half a day allows time for museums, cafés, and a relaxed stroll through the old streets.

Can you pay by card at Romanian castles and on local transport?

Most major attractions—including Bran and Peles—accept card payments, though occasional system outages mean carrying some cash is useful. Local buses or small kiosks may be cash-only, especially in smaller towns. Romanian Lei (RON) is preferred, as euros are not widely accepted outside major tourist venues.
