Pálinka is a traditional fruit brandy invented in Central Europe in the Middle Ages. It refers to spirits distilled from mashed and matured fruit. Pálinka can be made from any locally grown fruit, but the most common ones are plums, apricots, apples, pears, and cherries. Similar spirits also exist in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia known as Pálenka as well as in Romania under the name Pălincă.
