Blue Cave Swim, Lady of the Rocks & Submarine Tunnels

Explore the highlights of Boka Bay on a speedboat tour that blends iconic landmarks with off-the-beaten-path intrigue. From the legendary Our Lady of the Rocks to the glowing Blue Cave and a visit to historic submarine tunnels, this route offers a balanced mix of culture, nature, and unique coastal stories.

Details

Set off on a speedboat tour that showcases the best of Boka Bay’s scenery while adding a cinematic twist with a stop at a little-known military site. The route takes in Our Lady of the Rocks, a swim stop at the Blue Cave, and the atmospheric submarine tunnels once used to shelter naval vessels.

The journey begins at Our Lady of the Rocks, a church situated on an artificial island just off Perast. Your guide shares the local legend of two brothers who found a Madonna and Child icon here — a discovery that inspired the construction of the island and the church that stands on it today.

From there, you’ll cruise through the bay’s dramatic landscape, passing the narrow Verige Strait before reaching the outer bay. Along the way, you’ll see Mamula Island with its notable fortress, and follow the coastline of the Luštica Peninsula.

For many visitors, the highlight is the Blue Cave. To preserve the natural environment, local regulations now require all motorized boat engines to stay outside the cave. This means you’ll enjoy a quiet and clean atmosphere, free from noise and fumes. The boat anchors just 10 to 20 meters from the entrance, giving confident swimmers the chance to glide directly into the cave and see the famous glowing blue water from the inside.

On the return journey toward Kotor, you’ll step into a different part of the bay’s history with a visit to the Old Submarine Tunnels. This stop offers a memorable and atmospheric contrast to the rest of the route — a quiet, secluded spot that feels far removed from the usual tourist path.

This experience is designed for travelers seeking signature landmarks, a refreshing swim, and a unique “secret base” stop — all combined in one smooth route to discover Kotor Bay’s hidden gems.

Meeting point

Your tour starts in City Park (Park Slobode 1), located just 200 meters from the Main Gate of the Old Town and within a short walking distance from the Port of Kotor. Guests arriving from a cruise ship: After leaving the ship and passing through security, turn left. When you reach the small bridge, turn left again towards the park. Near the seaside, you will see an information desk where our skipper and staff member will be waiting to welcome you. Please be at the meeting point at least 30 minutes early. If you miss the tour, you can join the next available slot as agreed with the operator. If you’re arriving by car, we recommend allowing extra time for your journey. Heavy traffic is expected around the park, which is also your tour’s starting point, along with delays caused by ongoing roadworks on the main road.

There was a storm during our tour which made it unsafe to go to the blue cave. We were still able to go to Our lady of the rocks and Perast and got to spend longer time exploring and on top of this we got a discount. I really appreciate the discount plus the tour still going ahead. Safety comes first and we still had a great time and the strong wind was quite funny and made it memorable.

Together with our kids we had an amazing time during this tour. Boris and Math led is well throughout the whole trip. The music on the both is sensational, brought some good vibes on the boat. The gave us proper information and they sticked to the rules when we arrived at the Blue Cave. It is almost unbelievable how clear the blue water is. The music choise on the boat is sensational, it brought good vibes during the trip.

We really enjoyed our boat trip! It is excellent value for money. You are out on the water 3 hours. They also provided some fresh fruit to enjoy. I would say the blue cave swim is not easy if you aren’t a strong swimmer. I did it and it was super cool inside! Highly recommend the tour. Kotor was the favourite day for us on our 10 night cruise !
