The former Royal Residence is located just 30 minutes by train from central Paris. Once, it was a sleepy village until Louis XIII began to build a hunting lodge in 1623, and by the end of the century, the town and castle had become the symbolic center of the absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime.
The Sun King moved with the royal family to the palace in 1682. It was during the second phase of construction that two enormous wings were added. Inside the ornate State Apartments, you get to feel the life of the French court, filled with intrigue and the ease of carefree days. Next, stroll around the wonderful Hall of Mirrors.
You will know about famous figures of the French monarchy, which reigned until the French Revolution in October 1789, when the royal family was forced to return to Paris. Have an unforgettable stroll through legendary gardens and admire fountains, sculptures, and beautifully manicured lawns.
