Stockholm Archipelago Sailing Day Tour

Explore the Stockholm Archipelago by comfortable yacht on this small-group sailing tour from Vaxholm. Help steer the ship, stop for a swim on a picturesque island, and enjoy a traditional Swedish lunch—all while learning about the region’s nature and navigation from an expert skipper.

Details

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Stockholm Archipelago while traveling aboard a comfortable yacht on this small-group, full-day sailing tour from Vaxholm. Under the direction of an expert skipper, you’re invited to take part—help steer and crew the vessel yourself. Disembark on a picturesque island to explore rocky shores and take a dip in the bracing Baltic Sea, followed by a traditional Swedish lunch.

This small-group experience keeps sightseeing personal and offers a side of the region many visitors miss. Swim, sunbathe on deck, and enjoy the scenery. Lifejackets, sailing gear, and all necessary equipment are provided.

Make your way by bus or ferry from central Stockholm to Vaxholm, a coastal town on the edge of the archipelago. Meet your skipper at the ferry port and transfer to your yacht. After a short safety briefing and sailboat introduction, set sail into one of Europe’s largest archipelagos.

Some islands have homes and residents, while many remain uninhabited. Take a turn at the helm, then pause for a traditional Swedish fika (coffee and pastry break). Learn navigation basics, natural history, and local flora and fauna from your skipper as you sail. Stop at a small island to explore on foot and enjoy a refreshing swim. A traditional Swedish lunch is included.

Spend the afternoon sailing among more remote islands or exploring small fishing villages on larger ones. Return to Vaxholm in the early evening and make your own way back to Stockholm.

My sister and I had an amazing day with Håkan and his partner in the archipelago. Håkan is a great sailing instructor—patient, knowledgeable, and fun. From start to finish, they created such a welcoming and positive atmosphere. They took us to an island with an old bunker, shared fascinating stories about sailing and shared some of Sweden’s history, and served a delicious traditional three-course lunch. It was the perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. Couldn’t recommend it more, an absolute highlight of our trip!

The hosts were absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable and gave everyone a chance to try a different aspect of the sailing and the lunch they provided was above and beyond.

This was an amazing tour of the Archipelago. It was so beautiful and a lovely way to spend a day on the water. Our hosts were very friendly and thoughtful in their preparation of food and snacks. You can help in the sailing as much or as little as you want to. Highly recommend!

The sailboat's captain and owner was very friendly and encouraged the 4 passengers to get to know one another. We stopped near an island to discern the location of ABBA's cottage, and then later stopped at a different island to explore around, swim, and then have an included lunch served on the sailboat. Lunch was lovely in presentation and delicious as well. On the way back, anyone who wanted to was invited to try their hand at sailing. This trip would be especially fun if you were traveling with people you know as it is a full 8 hours on the boat.

"This was a really lovely day. Beautiful scenery, interesting chats -as the captain would say “sailing with friends”! And a seal sighting as a bonus. We were very welcomed and despite me having no sailing experience, I was put immediately at ease and at the helm! Lunch and snacks were very tasty too. Highly recommend."

One of the highlights of our trip! Our guide was rather reserved, but we had a lovely day with him. Fabulous lunch. Lots of wine. A really memorable day on the water.

Great day of sailing on the archipelago. My twelve year old son thoroughly enjoyed it and spent most of the day at the helm, thanks to the patience of our fantastic host. Lunch was delicious as well! A definite highlight of our trip.

It was my first time sailing and got the opportunity to have a full experience thanks to our operator. He took us around the archipielago visiting several sites, we docked in an Island for a nice afternoon lunch and fika and headed back to our pick up point.
