Details

Travel from Amsterdam into the countryside to discover two of the Netherlands’ most characteristic destinations. With round-trip transport included, this guided day trip offers an easy way to experience traditional villages, craftsmanship, and scenic waterways.

Begin at Zaanse Schans, a historic area known for its working windmills and wooden houses. Visit a traditional clog workshop to learn how wooden shoes are made and why they became an important part of Dutch life. Continue to a cheese factory, where you’ll learn about traditional production methods and have time to sample local varieties. Free time is included to walk around the windmills and take photos.
Approx. 2 hours

Next, travel to Giethoorn, often called the “Venice of the North.” With limited car access, the village is best explored on foot and by boat. Enjoy a 1-hour boat cruise through narrow canals, passing traditional farmhouses and arched bridges while learning how the Dutch manage life on the water.

After the cruise, spend time exploring Giethoorn independently. Walk along canal paths, visit local shops, or relax at a café, with recommendations from your guide before returning to Amsterdam in the early evening.

This tour is ideal for travelers looking to experience classic Dutch scenery and village life in one well-paced day.

Fantastic tour. My wife and I really enjoyed it. It was a great opportunity to see historic windmills without having to go too far from Amsterdam. Wandering along the canals in Giethoorn was a highlight of our trip.

Be prepared for a long day. Tour guide was great and knowledgable. Unfortunately the day we went it was foggy the entire day so by the time we got to Zaanse Schans for the boat tour it was so cold and you really could not see anything. A little surprised that there were no lights on the boat for safety purposes. Even though we had bad weather I would still do the tour.

This tour was great! Abrahim was the best guide I’ve ever had on any tour! He is knowledgeable and takes care of small details like taking your packages to the bus, giving recommendations for restaurants and activities, and making sure there is access to toilets when needed. Our bus driver (can’t remember his name) was great as well. The villages are beautiful and the tour is well planned. Highly recommended this tour!
