1-Hour Open Boat Canal Cruise with Live Guide & Optional Drinks

Discover Amsterdam from the water on a open-boat canal cruise with a live guide. Hear fascinating stories about the city as you pass historic canal houses and iconic landmarks, with an optional drinks package available to make your cruise even more enjoyable.

Details

Explore Amsterdam’s historic canal network on a one-hour cruise that departs from two convenient locations: the Anne Frank House or Central Station or Leidseplein. This route lets you choose a starting point that fits your itinerary, whether you’re near the city’s cultural heart or its main transport hub.

As you glide along the waterways, you’ll see elegant 17th-century canal houses and notable landmarks that reflect Amsterdam’s architectural and commercial heritage. Departures from the Anne Frank House pass the Westerkerk church and the Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets) district, known for its boutique shops and cafés. Trips starting at Central Station offer views of the National Maritime Museum and the Stopera building, which combines a city hall and opera house.

Your skipper provides live commentary throughout the cruise, sharing background on Amsterdam’s Golden Age, its artistic legacy, and its reputation for tolerance and innovation. Along the way, you’ll also spot Theater Carré, the Herengracht canal, and the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), each adding to the scenic character of the journey.

An onboard bar offers drinks for purchase, so you can settle in comfortably while taking in the views. This cruise suits both first-time visitors and returning travelers looking for a concise, informative orientation to the city’s waterways. Tickets are available for either departure point, making it easy to plan your route through Amsterdam.

We had a great tour with Dirk! He introduced us to Amsterdam in a very special way with incredibly authentic stories. You could tell that he is truly passionate about what he does – and that's exactly what made the experience so unique! We would go with Dirk again anytime! 🙌

Goes down the main river instead of the small canals and under small bridges so less intimate and more commercial. Blankets and umbrellas provided.Only chance to get a drink was before the boat left once we left no one there to man the drinks stand other than the boat driver
