Juan Miguel (apologies if that is wrongly spelt) was our guide. We was efficient, professional and knowledgeable about the Sagrada Familiar. He obviously loves the place and passed his passion onto his tour group. I could not fault the tour and thank Juan. On arrival I was very happy that our tickets allowed Juan to lead us straight though security etc, bypassing a lot of people and up to the entrance. He knew where the best places to stop were and all the little things Gaudi imparted into his design. I would have missed them if not for having a guide. Well recommended.

Our Guide had the gift of storytelling, and was able to weave the facts of construction together with an excellent knowledge of the Biblical references contained within Gaudi’s architectural masterpiece. This, coupled with a genuine love of the Sculptural aspects of the Sagrada Familia, and an excellent command of English, made for captivating listening throughout. The narrative synchronised perfectly with the timing and pace of our visit, and resonated long after the visit was over. This one and a half hour guided visit gives you more than your monies worth.

Guide was excellent, spoke excellent French. He made the tour very interactive, constantly asking us to point out items based on hints he would provide. He was very respectful of our time given that we had an eighth month baby with us, he would stop talking when the baby needed our attention. Overall, he made the the 1.5 hour tour a joy and very very interesting!!!

Met our guide outside the gift shop as planned. The tour was very informative. He started by explaining what we saw on the outside of the church before leading our group of about 20 inside. We did receive headsets which allowed us to hear our guide very well. He answered all our questions and provided an excellent tour . I highly recommend this tour!

The tour guide gave the information in a very clear and interesting way. He reflected back on ‘the story’ and allowed one to follow the long process on building the ‘Sagrada Família’. He welcomed questions or clarification at any time during the visit. All questions were seen as important and this allowed the visitors an active role during the tour.

The guide Juan Miguel was very good and the tour was really great and informative. Unfortunately, it didn't take as long as planned because the church was closed. We didn't know that in advance and we had actually planned - as we were promised - to stay a little longer and look around. Our guide seemed surprised too. Otherwise highly recommended.

Our guide Juan Miguel was absolutely brilliant, very informative and knowledgeable. We are not in the least religious but he made it so interesting and fun. I would highly recommend this company. We only booked the day before and had no issues whatsoever. Sagrada Familia is breathtaking and well worth a visit.

Take a 1.5-hour guided visit to Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and explore the Basilica’s remarkable exterior and interior in a private or small-group format with a knowledgeable guide. Learn about the ongoing construction, the projected completion timeline, and how generations of artisans, architects, and artists have contributed to realizing Gaudí’s vision.

Your guide will meet you outside the Basilica for a brief introduction before you proceed to the entrance. After passing security, you will focus on the Nativity Façade, the first section completed and a key reference for understanding the structure’s symbolism.

You will then enter the interior of the Sagrada Familia. Take in the space shaped by stained-glass windows that cast intensely colored light and by columns designed to resemble branching forms. Gaudí intended the interior to evoke a walk through a forest, with light filtered as if through layers of leaves.

As you exit, your guide will explain the Passion Façade, which portrays the crucifixion of Jesus. Its stark, angular sculptures convey the drama of the Passion, and—like much of the Basilica—were completed after Gaudí’s death.

Next, visit the Sagrada Familia Schools, originally built for the children of workers involved in the project. Hear how the building was reconstructed several times and even relocated to accommodate the Basilica’s expansion.

Your tour concludes in the Sagrada Familia Museum, where original plans, sketches, and models illustrate the complexity of Gaudí’s architectural approach. You will also see artifacts connected to Gaudí’s life and the Basilica’s early development, including his well-known upside-down model.

FAQ

What is the best time of day to visit the Sagrada Familia?
The most recommended times are early morning or late afternoon. Morning visits tend to be quieter, while late afternoon offers the most dramatic stained-glass light inside the basilica. Midday slots are the busiest and often sell out first, especially in peak season.
Can you buy Sagrada Familia tickets at the entrance, or do they sell out?
While there is an on-site ticket office, most time slots sell out online long before the day of the visit — sometimes days or even weeks in advance. Buying at the entrance is risky, as you may only find late-day availability or none at all. Skip-the-line reservations are the safest way to ensure entry.
How long should you plan for a full visit to the Sagrada Familia?
For most visitors, 1.5 to 2 hours is ideal to explore the interior, façades, and museum without rushing. Guided tours tend to be more structured, while self-guided visits can take longer depending on how much time you spend examining the details and exhibits.
Can you attend Mass at the Sagrada Familia without buying a ticket?
Yes—regular Mass and special liturgical events are free to attend, but they have limited seating and separate entrances. Access is restricted to worship areas only, and general tourist access to the basilica or museum still requires a paid, timed ticket.
Why is the Sagrada Familia still not finished?
Construction continues because the project follows Gaudí’s original, highly intricate architectural plans. Work has been delayed by funding gaps, the Spanish Civil War, constant restoration needs, and the complexity of executing Gaudí’s designs with modern techniques. Completion dates have shifted several times.
Can you see the Sagrada Familia for free from the outside?
Yes—the exterior is fully visible from surrounding streets and parks, and many visitors enjoy walking around the Nativity and Passion façades without entering. However, the interior experience, stained-glass light, and museum information can only be accessed with a ticket.
