Details

Popular summer bicycle ride from Downtown Budapest on the Danube Bicycle Trail. A family-friendly tour on bicycle lanes and nature. Enjoy the scenic Szentendre before returning by boat to the City Center.

Pick up your bicycle in the Jewish Quarter, Budapest. Nearest metro station: Deak Square. Find there M1, M2, M3 metro lines and even the airport bus 100E. Start your self-guided journey. You can start anytime during our opening hours, but if you plan to return by boat we recommend to start latest at 11:00 from Budapest. Bear in mind that there is only one boat at 17:00 (5p.m.). The boat has to be booked separately for EUR 30/adult incl. bicycles and EUR 25/child incl. bicycle. Availibility cannot be granted, please contact us!

You will pass the St. Stephen's Basilica, the Financial District, and Liberty Square before reaching the Parliament. Take a quick break to enjoy a stunning view of the river bank before continuing over Margaret Bridge to reach Margarete Island.

Cross the island to the north. Pass under Arpad Bridge to reach a bike path leading to the Old Town of Buda. Bike along the old cobblestone streets through historic buildings before reaching the Danube Bicycle Trail. Have a break at "Roman Beach", enjoy a coffee or even a swim!

Follow the path through a magical forest and pass Lupa Lake, an artificial lake with crystal clear water. If you wish, stop for a quick swim to cool off (entry fee not included). Continue on a newly built bike path to Szentendre, an idyllic city on the banks of the Danube River. Explore the town on foot, stopping to relax on a sandy beach or enjoying a drink or meal at one of the many local bars and restaurants.

Once you've explored Szentendre, you can either ride back 25km to Budapest, take the regional train (not advisable for groups) or — the best option: bring your bike back to Bupadest by boat. It leaves at 17:00 (5p.m.) and arrives ca. at 18:10 (6:10 p.m.) in Budapest. Please check for availability and the latest schedule with us before you start the tour. We expect your arrival at our shop latest at 18:00 (6 p.m.) or with the boat at 18:30 (6:30 p.m.) latest. Many thanks!

Louise
We really loved riding bikes beside the Danube. The instructions we were given by the bike hire shop were clear and easy to follow.

We rented e-bikes for the tour and took the train back, which worked absolutely smoothly. We got the train tickets for the return journey straight away and we were super happy with the e-bikes. The tour to Szentendre is really nice and varied and we really enjoyed it. The place itself is of course quite touristy but still worth a trip. The town is really beautiful and has a very special charm - we had a nice meal there and the many small shops are also worthwhile. In addition to the map that we got from the very friendly bike shop owner, we also used a bike app with the corresponding tour on our cell phone, which we would recommend, especially for the first third of the route. Price/performance was top for us.
