Illusion Art Museum
The IAM Illusion Art Museum (Illusion Art Museum Prague) is the Czech Republic's first — and Europe's only — museum dedicated exclusively to illusion and trick art, opened in 2018 in a neo-Renaissance former municipal savings bank in the heart of Old Town. Spread across three floors, the museum features anamorphic installations, lenticular paintings, spatial illusions, stereoscopic photography, and interactive 3D works by Czech and international artists. A recurring theme is Czech history: visitors encounter illusory depictions of figures including Franz Kafka, Bedřich Smetana, Nikola Tesla, and Václav Havel, as well as interactive recreations of historical events such as the Defenestration of Prague and the Swedish siege of the city. Most exhibits are designed to be photographed, and ground markers indicate the precise spots from which optical effects work best. Allow around 45–60 minutes; a companion app in 13 languages animates exhibits in augmented reality in real time.
