Torre de Petrin
The Petřín Lookout Tower was built in 1891 for the Jubilee Exhibition celebrating 100 years since the first Czech industrial exhibition, inspired by the Eiffel Tower at a scale of 1:5, using 175 tonnes of iron. It stands 58.7 metres tall, with 299 steps to the top; its peak sits at the same absolute altitude as the observation deck of the real Eiffel Tower, thanks to Petřín Hill's elevation. The tower offers the best panoramic view in Prague — on clear days visibility extends up to 150 km. Also on the hill: the Mirror Maze (Zrcadlové bludiště) with a diorama of the 1648 Battle of Prague; the Štefánik Observatory; a rose garden; and the Hunger Wall (Hladová zeď), a 14th-century fortification built by Charles IV said to have employed the city's poor during a famine. The hill is one of Prague's finest green spaces and worth visiting independently of the tower.
