2.5-Hour East Side Boat Cruise with Commentary

Discover Berlin from the water on an East Side boat cruise that traces the city’s past and present. Travel along the Spree to see historic landmarks, modern developments, and the evolving East Side Gallery area. Enjoy informative commentary as you take in key sights across Berlin’s central districts.

Details

Experience a boat cruise along Berlin’s East Side, reflecting on the city’s transformation since the fall of the Berlin Wall. This roundtrip journey offers views of both historic and modern landmarks, including the evolving surroundings of the East Side Gallery.

The cruise begins at the pier near the old stock exchange building, close to Hackesche Höfe. Settle in onboard and listen to detailed commentary in English and German, with optional food and drinks available for purchase.

As the boat departs, pass through the Mühlendamm Lock, often considered the historic cradle of Berlin. Continue along the Spree past Radialsystem V, Berlin Ostbahnhof, and the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The route leads under the Oberbaum Bridge into the east harbor, an area shaped by recent urban development, home to companies such as Universal Music, MTV, and Coca-Cola. Along the way, you’ll also see the Badeschiff at Arena Treptow and the distinctive Molecule Man sculpture.

Returning toward Berlin-Mitte, the cruise passes the Nikolaiviertel, the site of the former palace, and the Humboldt Forum. The route continues alongside Museum Island, beginning at Berlin Cathedral, before passing under Weidendammer Bridge toward Friedrichstrasse. Here, notable sights include Schiffbauerdamm, the Tränenpalast, and Friedrichstrasse station.

The journey concludes with views of the government district, including the Reichstag building and the Federal Chancellery. You’ll also pass Berlin Central Station, one of Europe’s most modern railway hubs, and Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the Federal President, before returning to the original departure point.

We need to give our sincere thanks to the gentlemen at the booth on Sunday July 16. We thought we had booked tickets for Sunday the 16th, but we had bought them for Saturday the 15th. After letting most of the Sunday paying passengers board... They just took a bit of information and let us board since they were not full. Our sincere thanks!!!

Really extensive view of Berlin shores including a long stretch of the old Berlin Wall. The only thing that was hard to understand was which building the commentary was referring to as it was first in German then in English and you wondered if you had passed to the next building. That didn’t detract from what was still a really enjoyable trip.

Enjoyed the cruise very much. Was worth the price and very informative. Learned things I wouldn't have known about certain buildings and what they were and used for if I didn't take cruise

It’s a great way to see a lot of Berlin that you might not be able to see. Only so much time in a day. The weather was perfect the day we went, had great German beer and got to sit in the sun for 2 1/2 hours and relax and take in the beautiful Berlin city.
