Details

This full-day tour of the mighty Danube is ideal for people who want to combine history with nature and would like to enjoy some of the most beautiful countrysides in Hungary. You will see historic monuments and art memorials while your guide provides a lively narrative of Hungarian life.

At Esztergom, the northern gate of Budapest, you will pause at the largest cathedral in the country and see the burial sites of famous cardinals as you gaze across the water towards Slovakia. Cross the river and border into Slovakia to see the stunning view from the opposite side.

You will visit the city Visegrád where you will learn about life in the Middle Ages while enjoying spectacular views of the Danube Valley. Additionally, this is the city where you will be provided with your lunch, a 3-course Hungarian meal.

You will stop at the artists' village in Szentendre, a baroque city located where the Danube River meets the Pilis Mountains. Wander the narrow streets to soak up the magical atmosphere and catch panoramic vistas of the river.

Browse the shops of the village before the return journey to Budapest. Travel from 21st May until 31st October will be on a relaxing boat cruise, a fitting way to arrive back in the city center. Between the 11th of September–31st October, and in case of low/high water levels, the return to Budapest will be by bus.

It was a really well balanced tour the stops were interesting and we had enough time at each. The lunch at the hunters restaurant was really good and one of the best meals I’ve had in Hungary There was a problem as I had not specified a dietary restriction but it was no trouble Szentendre was really nice and the boat trip back to Budapest was lovely

The route was very beautiful and the tour guide's descriptions were accurate and interesting. The places visited during the day trip were beautiful, even if the heat did not always make for a comfortable visit. The return trip by boat was very satisfying. The restaurant in Visegrad offered a panoramic view, even if the cuisine was not up to the standard of the location. It was a shame that it was not possible to visit Visegrad.

The beautiful landscapes, great transportation, and overall a highly recommended activity. The tour guide was very willing but had little knowledge of the language and was not prepared to explain everything necessary to understand and learn what I wanted to know. I think that if a Spanish tour guide is offered, they should be good at it.

It was a wonderful trip!! Yolanda our tour guide is an excellent guide. She kept describing places along the way, told us a lot of history, took us to a great place for lunch, and was always willing to help and answer our questions. I highly recommend this tour. We even crossed to the other side of the river to Slovakia for breathtaking views of the Basilica.

Great to see sites outside of Budapest. The churches on the tour were impressive. Would recommend this tour if you want a taste of Hungary outside of the cities.

Really interesting visit and our guide Yolanda was excellent! Nice to ‘pop’ into Slovakia for good views. The 3 course meal in the hilltop restaurant was really good! Chicken soup, Chicken paprikash with the best sauerkraut I’ve ever had! It’s traditional Hungarian food, so lovely. Some previous feedback on this trip was that the food wasn’t good- not sure what they were expecting, but we thought it was great! The trip back down the Danube was a lovely way to end the day. Well worth it!
