Everything was perfect, but we had to take the tour in English because there was no one in Spanish despite taking it in Spanish, and they told us a day before.

FAQ

Can you visit Auschwitz without booking in advance?
It is technically possible, but strongly discouraged. Auschwitz-Birkenau frequently reaches capacity, and same-day tickets often sell out, especially during peak months. Booking ahead ensures guaranteed entry at a specific time and avoids long waits or being turned away at the gate.
Is it better to visit Auschwitz in the morning or afternoon?
Morning visits tend to have fewer crowds, especially early time slots. Afternoon visits can feel more rushed due to timed entry regulations. If you want a quieter and more contemplative experience, early morning is generally recommended.
Why are some areas of Auschwitz restricted for photography?
Photography is limited in certain rooms out of respect for the victims and to preserve the integrity of historical exhibits. Some spaces contain personal belongings or sensitive materials that the museum does not permit to be photographed. Visitors are asked to follow posted signs and guidance from staff.
Is a guided tour of Auschwitz better than visiting on your own?
Most visitors find that a guided tour provides clearer historical context, deeper explanations, and a structured route through both Auschwitz I and Birkenau. The site is large and emotionally complex, so having an expert guide helps visitors understand what they’re seeing and why it matters.
Are jeans or casual clothing acceptable at Auschwitz?
Yes—there is no formal dress code, and casual attire such as jeans is allowed. Visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully and comfortably, especially since the grounds are extensive and the weather can be unpredictable. Practical footwear is important due to uneven outdoor paths.
What should visitors avoid doing at Auschwitz?
Auschwitz is a memorial site, so behaviors considered disrespectful—loud conversations, posing for inappropriate photos, eating outside designated areas, or using drones—should be avoided. Visitors are expected to maintain a quiet, respectful demeanor throughout their stay.
