Join a 2.5-hour, small-group cooking class dedicated to making traditional Hungarian strudel. This hands-on workshop introduces you to typical fillings, family techniques, and the customs connected to this well-known dessert. You will prepare and bake two strudels, then enjoy them fresh from the oven.

Make your way to the local partner’s private apartment in central Budapest. With guidance from a professional chef, learn about the origins of strudel, a classic dessert of the former Habsburg Empire with roots influenced by Turkish cuisine. Hear about its role in countryside wedding dinners and how it fits into wider Hungarian culinary traditions and everyday life.

Follow the instructor’s family recipe to create the stretched version of the pastry. Under expert direction, stretch the elastic dough until thin, then fill your strudels with traditional options such as poppy seed with pumpkin, sweet or salty cabbage, or sweet cottage cheese cream. Once prepared, place them in the oven to bake.

While your strudels cook, enjoy a selection of typical Hungarian bites along with wine, soft drinks, and mineral water. When they are ready, sit down with your group to savor the results. At the end of the class, take home the recipes so you can recreate these dishes for family and friends.

This hands-on class for strudel-making was fantastic! Chef Marti taught my husband and me all about making strudel and shared all the little details and secrets she learned while growing up and making strudel with her mother. It was so fun and I can’t wait to get home and try it myself with the recipe Chef Marti shared. I highly recommend this class. Chef Marti was so kind and patient and altogether wonderful. Making strudel with Marta was so much fun. She was so informative about cooking and Hungarian subject matter. My sister and I loved the hands on experience. She was so patient and demonstrated the technique of rolling the dough to perfection. I need a lot of practice to achieve her skills.
