Lake Balaton
Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Hungary and Central Europe. Its shores are spread with vast and numerous recreational areas with mineral and thermal springs, attracting both locals and tourists. The lake is named after the Slavic word "блато" meaning swamp. However, this vast water body can no longer be called a swamp. Boats sail here, fishing is developed, yet the nickname "Hungarian Sea" is often mocked. Due to its shallow depth (about three meters), it is often called "The biggest puddle in Central Europe." Nevertheless, there is a sad and frightening local tale associated with the lake. Local legends say there is a sunken temple in the lake, where a girl sits and cries bitterly and incessantly. As long as her tears flow, there will be water in Balaton.
